Pinellas extension celebrates Earth Day at Florida Botanical Gardens
As the world prepared to celebrate Earth Day April 22, Pinellas County extension got things started a day early with EarthFest 2007 April 21, which offered up a full day’s worth of Earth-friendly activities at the Pinellas County Extension facilities and Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo.
Sponsored by Progress Energy and Pinellas County, the event featured tree and shrub giveaways, a native plant sale by the Florida Native Plant Society, programs on ecosystem restoration and landscaping with native plants, storytelling, live music, tree planting, butterfly encounters, and lots more.
About 3,000 visitors attended the event, according to Tom Roberts, curator of education for Pinellas County extension.
