IFAS forestry researcher Jose to get 'young' award for leadership in his field
IFAS forestry researcher Shibu Jose will receive the Young Forester Leadership Award from the Society of American Foresters (SAF) this fall.
The award recognizes outstanding leadership by a forestry professional younger than 40 (he’s 37) in an individual program or project that benefits forestry and the society.
Jose has published one book—“The Longleaf Pine Ecosystem: Ecology, Silviculture, and Restoration,”more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, and several book chapters. His book, published in 2006, is in its second printing. Jose is a regular reviewer for competitive funding programs such as USDA’s Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service and the National Science Foundation; he serves as editor for the Journal of Forestry, book review editor for Forest Science, consulting editor for Agroforestry Systems, Associate Editor for Research Letters in Ecology and editorial board member for Tree Physiology.
Jose, who joined the SAF in 1994, will be recognized at the 2007 SAF National Convention, Oct. 23-27, in Portland, Ore. He serves on the Society’s Forest Science and Technology Board.
The Society of American Foresters, founded in 1900, is the oldest and largest nonprofit forestry association dedicated to promoting forest stewardship through science and education. The group has more than 15,000 members.
