Momol to lead extension District 3

Tim Momol, an associate professor with the North Florida REC in Quincy, starts a new job in Gainesville Aug. 10, leading UF extension efforts in 13 Central Florida counties.

Momol, a plant pathologist, has been at the Quincy center since 1998, and has run the Florida Plant Diagnostic Network and the Plant Disease Clinic.

His new duties will include monitoring extension efforts in the fast-growing central district, which includes: Brevard, Citrus, Flagler, Hernando, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Putnam, Seminole, St. Johns, Sumter and Volusia counties. Momol he said he expects the job will keep him on the go.

“I’ll be a road runner,” he said. “I think my office will mostly be in the car.”

Momol said he sees his job as supporting extension efforts in those counties, acting as a bridge between county governments and the UF campus, and as an advocate for sustainability.
