Plant City is growing through the roof
It’s only appropriate that the fifth anniversary is “wood,” because the UF/IFAS GCREC IFAS Plant City Distance Campus is sprouting like a redwood on steroids.
When it began in 2002, the campus only offered courses within an environmental horticulture major. However, with the recent addition of majors in natural resources conservation, agricultural education and geomatics, the campus has seen a doubling of enrollment in just the last 18 months.
The campus falls under the administrative umbrella of the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center and maintains a joint-use agreement with Hillsborough Community College (HCC). The latter arrangement is why the Plant City Campus is sometimes mistakenly referred to as HCC—even though they’re two completely distinct learning institutions.
