How to be Living Green

Green-tendriled creepers from an alien land are skulking through the countryside in search of new land to conquer. Don’t look to a UFO-ologist for defensive tactics, just turn to Mark Hostetler and his tips on air potatoes.

Is the nightlife of local wildlife trashing your back yard? Mark says invite them over—maybe they’ll make good neighbors. Just don’t let them borrow the French-fry-fueled Ford.

The author of the award winning book That Gunk on You Car: A Unique Guide to North American Insects is turning his unconventional approach to naturalism into television tailored for the environmentally conscious.

In each half-hour episode of Living Green, Hostetler explores ways that communities can institute practical “win-win” strategies that help maintain the ever-tenuous balance between socioeconomic need and environmental responsibility.

A collaborative effort between public television station WUFT-TV/DT and the University of Florida’s Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, Living Green lightheartedly highlights the need for a united response at the local and individual levels to ensure the conservation of natural resources for future generations.

The TV shows are currently aired across the United States and can be viewed on local PBS stations, government access channels and local cable stations.  The four-episode-old series has already won multiple honors including the Communicator Award of Distinction and the Videographer Award of Distinction.
